Following the success of the designers work in the Gatwick South Terminal, the same client requested the identical high standard for multiple sites. We were very excited to create another bespoke SupaSlat integrated ceiling design for a premium airport lounge at London Luton Airport. The system highlights the impact and quality of our design solutions in enhancing airport lounge experiences.
Airport lounges function as sanctuaries for travellers, providing a tranquil environment from the hectic pace of terminals. Good design in airport lounges is essential for providing an inviting and comfortable atmosphere that meets the different demands of travellers. The key components of airport lounges should be user-friendly, comfortable, and inclusive design.
The integrated ceiling design used Vtec’s customised SupaSlat system, which was tailored to the specific project requirements for an airport lounge.
Maintaining design consistency across various locations is crucial to brand identification and consumer experience. The idea behind this airport lounge brand was to create a warm and inviting environment that seems like a home away from home. The SupaSlat system, with its integral acoustic properties, contributed to achieving a comfortable and warm environment tailored to the needs of travellers. The design continuity across numerous sites, including Luton, ensures that the user experience is consistent in comfort and quality, regardless of location.
This design specification featured customised:
• SupaSlat profile sizes in our warm oak laminate for a harmonic and balanced look. Each panel was made to measure. This also ensured accuracy throughout the installation.
• Our specialised VFR Core
• The EchoTone Acoustic Backing Board in Budapest Black improved the airport lounge’s acoustic quality. The enhanced sound resulted in a more optimal and comfortable listening environment.
The design was 3D modelled to ensure that all pieces were cohesive, properly interfaced, and, most importantly, functional with no conflicts. This entailed seamlessly integrating several different Mechanical and Electrical elements into the ceiling design.
• The SupaSlat panel system is made-to-measure, resulting in balanced equidistant placement and a beautiful cohesive pattern.
• Angled cut ends for the SupaSlat slats were created for the apertures around the ventilation ducts, smoke detectors, emergency and linear lights, air grills, pendants, and smoke detectors.
• Detailed drawings were created to indicate service locations and ensure accurate installation. This level of planning was required to integrate all necessary functions while maintaining the lounge’s visual appeal.
When it comes to project support, we are dedicated to collaborating with the full team of stakeholders, from designers and contractors to the installation team. Vtec’s CAD Team collaborated closely with other service providers to ensure that all features were properly incorporated into the ceiling design.
Our goal is to always make our systems easy to specify and understand. This also includes ensuring that installation is simple and straightforward. To speed up the installation procedure, we provided precise installation plans.
In addition to the ceiling design, our London Brick Wall Panel system was chosen as the lounge’s feature interior walls. London Brick was perfect for such internal applications as there is no messy wet trade work that needs to be done.
The wall panels, specified in our London Brick Multi design, possess tints and tones that enhance the lounge’s warmth and tactile appeal. Using the wall panel system also contributed to increased movement and spatial fluidity in the room.
